Documentary Filmmakers to Present

Two Sneak Previews of ’Finding Our Voices’

Dream Catcher Films, Inc. will present two sneak previews of a work in progress, ”Finding Our Voices,” a documentary film profiling the lives of eight courageous Americans, on Jan. 5 and 12 in the D.C. metro area.  In a city where foreign policy is created, the filmmakers will share a movie that records how U.S. foreign policy in Iraq has dramatically changed eight lives.

The producers of  ”Finding Our Voices” will be on hand to share a nearly completed cut of the film at 11 p.m. Saturday Jan. 5 at Busboys and Poets restaurant, bookstore and performance space in Washington and at 10 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 12, at Busboys and Poets in Arlington, Va.

”Finding Our Voices” is a feature-length movie that examines the sacrifices of eight people who decided to speak out against the war in Iraq.  From very different walks of life, those profiled include a grandmother and retired social worker who lost her son at the World Trade Center Sept. 11, 2001, three soldiers who served in Iraq, peace activist Gael Murphy, diplomat Brady Kiesling, Rep. Jim Moran, D-Va., and the Rev. Graylan Hagler.  The filmmakers captured their struggles over the past four years as they took their dissent to the streets, to police stations, to the nation’s capitol, and even to Iraq.

“The film is a moving portrait of how the war in Iraq has deeply affected the lives of eight Americans,” said Executive Producer Holly Stadtler.  While outlining their struggles, the film interweaves historically significant moments that honor the importance of dissent in a democracy, underscoring the critical need for free speech.

The experienced filmmakers, who rarely show unfinished cuts to the public, are looking for critical feedback to the story and hoping to draw attention to the plight of independent media.  Dream Catcher Films, Inc., owned and operated by Stadtler, has for more than a decade produced commissioned documentaries for cable broadcasters.  Its client list includes TLC, Discovery Channel, TBS Superstation, National Geographic Channel, MSNBC, and Animal Planet.  This film is self financed, not paid for by a broadcaster.  It will be independently released nationwide beginning March 13, leading up to the fifth anniversary of the March 18, 2003 invasion of Iraq.

Stadtler, Director/Writer Victoria Hughes, and Coordinating Producer, Laurel Jensen will be on hand following each of the preview screenings to answer questions and to ask for public support promoting the film.  Additional information is available on the film’s website:  www.findingourvoices.com
