Documentary Filmmakers Present Special Advanced Screening of Finding Our Voices

Dream Catcher Films, Inc. will present a special advanced screening of Finding Our Voices, a new feature length documentary profiling the lives of courageous Americans, on Thursday, June 19, 2008 at 8:00pm, the Avalon Theater, Washington, D.C.  In a city where foreign policy is created, the filmmakers will share a movie that records how U.S. foreign policy in Iraq has deeply affected eight Americans from very different walks of life.

Finding Our Voices is a moving portrait that profiles a grandmother and retired social worker who lost her son at the World Trade Center Sept. 11, 2001, three soldiers who served in Iraq, peace activist Gael Murphy, diplomat Brady Kiesling, Rep. Jim Moran, D-VA, and the Rev. Graylan Hagler.  The filmmakers captured their sacrifices over the past five years as they took their dissent of the war to the streets, to police stations, to the nation’s capitol, and even to Iraq. While outlining their struggles, the film interweaves historically significant moments that honor the importance of dissent in a democracy, underscoring the critical need for free speech.

Following the screening, several of the voices featured in the film and the producers will host a Q&A with the audience.  Expected to attend the screening and Q&A are Rep. Jim Moran D-VA, Adele Welty from 9/11 Families for Peaceful Tomorrows, former soldier John Bruhns and Sue Niederer.  Director/Writer Victoria Hughes, Executive Producer Holly Stadtler, and Coordinating Producer/Videographer Laurel Jensen will also answer questions.

Finding Our Voices is about standing up for what you believe.  It’s not just another Iraq war film, this is a movie about patriotic Americans living their conscience.  At a time when our country looks for a change in leadership, this film celebrates our first amendment rights and our responsibility to participate in our Democracy,” said Executive Producer Holly Stadtler.

Tickets for the screening may be purchased in advance at www.findingourvoices.com for $10 or on the day of the event, Thursday, June 19th at the theater as early as 6:30pm.  This is a one day only screening. The documentary is currently available online at the website and has been selected to screen at the West Hollywood Film Festival and the Action on Film Festival, both scheduled in July.

Dream Catcher Films, Inc., owned and operated by Stadtler, has for more than a decade produced commissioned documentaries for cable broadcasters.  Its client list includes TLC, Discovery Channel, TBS Superstation, National Geographic Channel, MSNBC, and Animal Planet.
