Washougal
International Film Festival Hosts Washington
state premiere of Finding Our
Voices
Dream Catcher Films, Inc.
is proud to announce Finding Our
Voices will have a Washington
state premiere as part of the Washougal
International Film Festival Thursday, 8/21 at
4:50pm at the Washougal Town
Square, screen
B.
Finding Our
Voices raises the question, ‘if there
is no dissent, and therefore no debate do we
still have a Democracy’? This documentary
provides moving portraits of 8 courageous and
diverse Americans, deeply affected by
U.S. foreign
policy in Iraq,
who attempt to protect democracy with their
lives.
The movie profiles a grandmother and
retired social worker who lost her son at the
World
Trade
Center
Sept. 11, 2001, three soldiers who served in
Iraq,
peace activist Gael Murphy, diplomat Brady
Kiesling, Rep. Jim Moran, D-VA, and the Rev.
Graylan Hagler. The filmmakers captured
their sacrifices over the past five years as
they took their dissent of the war to the
streets, to police stations, to the nation’s
capitol, and even to Iraq.
While outlining their struggles, the film
interweaves historically significant moments
that honor the importance of dissent in a
democracy, underscoring the critical need for
free speech.
“Finding Our
Voices is about standing up for what
you believe. It’s not just another
Iraq
war film, this is a movie about patriotic
Americans living their conscience. At a
time when our country looks for a change in
leadership, this film celebrates our first
amendment rights and our responsibility to
participate in our Democracy,” said Executive
Producer Holly Stadtler.
After screening at 2
festivals in California
last month, the film picked up the following
awards:
Best Political Documentary from the
Action on Film Festival and Best Feature
Documentary plus a Juror Award from the West
Hollywood International Film Festival. Next
week the film screens in Denver as part
of the Democratic National Convention
events.
Well known actor and peace
activist Martin Sheen narrates the
documentary. For more information about
