2 LA Area Film Festivals In Same Week to Screen Finding Our Voices

Dream Catcher Films, Inc. is proud to announce two film festivals in the Los Angeles area next week are screening Finding Our Voices.   The film’s world premiere is at the Action on Film International Festival in Pasadena, Tuesday, July 29, 2008 at 8:00pm, Laemmle Theater, One Colorado Blvd.  Festival organizers have nominated the feature length documentary for Best Political Documentary and Best Female Director.  In addition, the film will screen at the West Hollywood International Film Festival, Wednesday, July 30, 2008 at 9:15pm, Regency Theater, 7907 Beverly Blvd.

 Actor and well known activist Martin Sheen narrates the movie. Finding Our Voices raises the question, ‘if there is no dissent, and therefore no debate do we still have a Democracy’? This documentary provides moving portraits of 8 courageous and diverse Americans, deeply affected by U.S. foreign policy in Iraq, who attempt to protect democracy with their lives.  The movie profiles a grandmother and retired social worker who lost her son at the World Trade Center Sept. 11, 2001, three soldiers who served in Iraq, peace activist Gael Murphy, diplomat Brady Kiesling, Rep. Jim Moran, D-VA, and the Rev. Graylan Hagler.  The filmmakers captured their sacrifices over the past five years as they took their dissent of the war to the streets, to police stations, to the nation’s capitol, and even to Iraq. While outlining their struggles, the film interweaves historically significant moments that honor the importance of dissent in a democracy, underscoring the critical need for free speech. 

“Finding Our Voices is about standing up for what you believe.  It’s not just another Iraq war film, this is a movie about patriotic Americans living their conscience.  At a time when our country looks for a change in leadership, this film celebrates our first amendment rights and our responsibility to participate in our Democracy,” said Executive Producer Holly Stadtler. 

Tickets for the Pasadena screening may be purchased in advance at www.aoffest.com for $8 or $10 at the theater the day of the event, Tuesday, July 29^th.  Following the screening, Executive Producer Holly Stadtler and Director/Writer Victoria Hughes will host a Q&A with the audience.   The West Hollywood Film Festival screens the movie Wednesday, July 30, and tickets are available at www.whiff2008.com ($10 or $8 for W.
