Why 'Finding Our Voices'?

Tearful and feeling defeated, a priest approached Archbishop Desmond Tutu for solace. "Our work for peace and justice is ignored - even undermined, " the priest said. "What can we do?"

Archbishop Tutu gently took her face in his hands, brought it close to his. Eye to eye, he slowly said the three words, "Find your voice."

In the face of aggressive U.S. foreign policy, Americans and others across the globe are finding their voices -and resisting domination, pushing back against destructive policies, and framing alternatives in the public discourse.

Brief History of the Film

FINDING OUR VOICES is a collaboration between Dream Catcher Films, Inc. and Laurel Jensen.

In early 2003, Laurel took the edict "become the media" seriously and began shooting street actions, strategy meetings, performances, and interviews that were visibly and vocally against the war in Iraq. Thousands of people from all over the world came to Washington, D.C. to protest. She felt that the mainstream media were missing the deeper story and misrepresenting the people involved - people who were standing against the prevailing American viewpoint in the march to war. When Vicki Hughes, a good friend in the film business, viewed some of Laurel's footage she immediately called her production team and FINDING OUR VOICES was born.
