6th Anniversary of Iraq War Inspires Documentary Film & Discussion in 5 Cities

Huntington, VT. March 17, 2009. This week marks the sixth anniversary of the start of the Iraq War – which has resulted in more than 4,000 American deaths and countless Iraqi deaths (estimates vary from over 100,000 to up to a million).  This week, Dream Catcher Films, Inc. will present special screenings of Finding Our Voices in five East Coast cities to encourage serious policy discussions nationwide.

This award-winning documentary, narrated by Martin Sheen, will be shown in 5 East Coast  venues. Following the movie, the producers and special guests at each location will host discussions about how Americans can work together to responsibly end the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan and see that veterans receive fair treatment.

Finding Our Voices provides moving portraits of eight diverse Americans, deeply affected by U.S. foreign policy in Iraq and their sacrifices for speaking out against the war. The film also raises two salient questions, “Are peaceful dissent, and debate essential ingredients of a Democracy?” and “How do concerned citizens get involved?”

Film critic Rick Kosniak of SEVEN DAYS newspaper writes, Finding Our Voices is splendidly edited, narrated by Martin Sheen with his customary finesse and authority and written with a terrific historical grasp.”  Winner of Best Political Documentary from Action on Film Festival and Best Feature Political Documentary from West Hollywood Film Festival last summer, it has screened at the Non Violent Film Festival, Rhode Island International Film Festival, Washougal International Film Festival and La Femme Festival.”

The producers are focusing on varied audiences for this week’s special screenings and discussions.

On Wednesday, March 18 at 7:00pm at Merrill’s Roxy Theater in Burlington, Vermont, Holly Stadtler, Executive Producer, and Jen Berger of the Peace and Justice Center will host a discussion aimed at college students and peace activists. The following evening, Stadtler and Berger will host another screening and discussion at the Big Picture Theater in Waitsfield, Vermont at 7:00 pm.

John Bruhns, who’s featured in the film, will join Coordinating Producer Laurel Jensen at an event sponsored by “Veterans for Peace” in Lafayette Hill, Pennsylvania, outside of Philadelphia at 7:30 pm on March 19.

Also March 19, Director/Writer Victoria Hughes and Colonel Mike Turner (USAF-retired) will host an audience of Democratic party members and political activists at the Tally Ho Theater in Leesburg, Virginia at 8:00 pm

And in Arlington, VA on March 19, Moya Atkinson, Social Worker and film supporter, will host a program with the faith-based community at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Arlington.

Finding Our Voices is an independent self-financed production of Dream Catcher Films, Inc.  More information about the film and screenings can be found at http://www.findingourvoices.com.
